Fashion Featured

I'm very happy to have my fashion illustrations published in TASCHEN Illustration Now! Fashion edition. This is the second time I've been published by TASCHEN - the first was back in 2011 in their Illustration Now! - see it here.

Here's a little more about this book:

Styled by hand

The many incarnations of illustration in the world of fashion

Every dress begins with a drawing, every skirt with a sketch. Illustration is integral to fashion design not only as a means of expression, and the starting point of every design, but also for patterns and prints as well as magazine editorial illustrations. Often, artists will even illustrate the newest looks directly from the catwalks. It’s high time we celebrated fashion illustration in our Illustration Now!series: here you’ll find new work from 90 artists around the globe, including Ruben Toledo, Aurore de La Morinerie, Bil Donovan, Tanya Ling, and Jean-Philippe Delhomme. The book features quotes by experts from the fashion world: Valentino compliments the work of Gladys Perint Palmer; voices out of the studios of Maison Martin Margiela, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, and H&M add their praise for the talents in the book.

Following an introduction by illustration expert Steven Heller, the historical essay by art and fashion historian Adelheid Rasche provides an in-depth exploration of the subject. Looking back to the 17th century, she draws a timeline of fashion illustration until today, accompanied by images such as an early etching by François Watteau, a drawing by Paul Iribe for the book of the famous Parisian couturier Paul Poiret, and illustrations by the highly acclaimed masters of modern fashion illustration René Gruau and Antonio Lopez, as well as, from more recent years, François Berthoud.

Family

Here's a private commission I worked on for a surprise gift from the husband to the wife. The daydreaming girl is the wife when she was a little girl and all the things you see are symbolic of their life together. The teddy bears belong to their two sons, the golden gate bridge represents their time living over in the US, the harbour bridge represents their life now in Sydney. The cactus is symbolic of his Texan heritage, the sweet pea flowers are her favourite so are the sunflowers and daffodils. The tent symbolises their family holidays and love for camping. The flamingos represent her friends. The flute playing character was the symbol for their wedding. All of it is full of meaning. A very special commission.

1001 Feasts

I recently had the pleasure of working with chef Melissa again (see last year's project here). This time Melissa asked me to design a new logo/branding for her food website 1001feasts.com.
It's hand drawn letting surrounded by foods that she is inspired by.
