♥ Chinese Whispers - Alison Scott

Happy Saturday. It's really nice and sunny outside and we've just been food shopping so our cupboards & fridge are now jam packed with delicious treats. But before I go to eat everything at once I'd like to introduce you to Alison Scott. She is a very talented singer/song writer/musician who grew up in Minneapolis surrounded by music and has toured with Bon Jovi & Chriss Isaak.

This September saw the release of Alison Scott's Chinese Whispers album which is a mix of pop, rock, R&B, a taste of hip-hop all sewn together with her powerful soulful voice. I was lucky enough to be sent a few goodies from Alison. So here you can see the CD and t-shirt are beautifully printed with my illustration called Chinese Whispers. (I'll stick to drawing instead of modelling).
I was curious to find out what a musician's life is like so I asked Alison a few questions.
Hi Alison, thanks for sending over the CDs and t-shirt! It's always great to see the finished product. My first questions is,

What is a typical day for you? A lot of computer work. Emails galore, website updating, etc. Usually a trip to the post office to mail off ordered CDs, followed by a trip to the gym. JOY! I teach for a few hours in the afternoon, walk my dog, and then I'm either home with my family or playing a show at night. If I am lucky I will find some time to write (this usually happens late at night).
Where do you get your inspiration from? People and nature mostly. A lot of my songs are about personal experiences I have had, but many of them are about friends experiences. I get to watch those from outside the box, and it gives me a different perspective than if I was going through it myself.
How would you describe the Chinese Whispers album and what is your favourite song?
I can't pick one. They are too different, so my favorite changes with my mood. Also, my favorite song usually tends to be whatever was recorded most recently. It's the most fresh thing in my head. I love "Rock Me Sweetly" when I'm down. "Chinese Whispers" or "So Why" when I'm feeling sassy. "Smash and Grab" is good for dancing. There is something I love about all of them, or they wouldn't have made the cut.

What has been your biggest achievement to date? Well, many would say opening for Bon Jovi is by far my biggest brag-worthy moment. That was incredible, and I will never forget it. However, we just released my third record on 11/09/10, and I have to say that I feel this record is my biggest achievement to date. I couldn't be more thrilled with it. It's everything I wanted it to be. Now I just have to get it to the masses.

Last question! If you weren't a musician what would you be doing?
I really enjoy teaching, I would love to do that. It would have to be something that involved creativity. I have done the desk job thing, and I couldn't do it long term. I love clothes/shoes. I could definitely own my own boutique. And if none of that, I cook a lot. Baking in particular. I could run with that and be happy as well.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions Alison, the CD and t-shirt look awesome!

♥ Paper Cut Lady

Hello All,

Here's a paper cut I did today after grabbing a nice breakfast from Bourke Street Bakery. It's nice outside but I decided to set up shop indoors whilst listening to some good music and drinking peppermint tea from my Buckingham Palace glass tumbler. It reminds me of the English Summer just gone where I have fond memories of high teas, fish & chips and spending time with family. Speaking of fish & chips, I'm really craving English fish & chips with a side of mushy peas with a generous sprinkling of vinegar and a dash of salt. Then I will wash it all down with some Cherry Coke :-) then try to cram in a bag of penny sweets....
Some progress shots - I'm not left handed, the photo is just in reverse :-) It would look a complete mess if I had tried to cut with my left hand. It's difficult enough using the right hand. I'm quite happy with how it has turned out, so watch this space for more paper cuts and hopefully no finger cuts.
Also in progress is the update of my website. It's been a long overdue task on my to-do list but I kept putting it off, but after some encouraging words from Nicole GPV I have redesigned my website - I have the layout sorted, I just need to resize all my work and upload it. It's quite a difficult task trying to make a back catalogue of all my work, but at least I have started and will finish soon. You'll be the first to know.

Right I'm off to have a stretch, got a bit of neck ache from stooping over the coffee table. I should really set up a proper studio...

Ms Bunny & Ms Moustache - Signed Limited Originals

Hello - hope you are having a great weekend. I started the day bright and early today with a breakfast in Newtown with some South Sydney Eggs - fried eggs atop toasted turkish bread drizzled with a delicious pesto dressing with a side of grilled roma tomatoes. All this was washed down with a large glass of chilled strawberry smoothie whilst basking in the morning sunshine.

I was full as a tick afterwards, but what a great start to my day. Darren and I had a little wander around and we stocked up on gold-fish equipment. We went to the Newtown aquarium and there were some amazing brightly coloured fighting fish in there and beautiful corals.

I've decided it was time to stock my shop up again after receiving emails about wanting to purchase my art. I have focused a lot of my time working on commissions but I think it really is time to open up the shop again. So here you have it, the above two spray paints are available as signed limited originals, they cost $100 AU (approx. 50GBP/95USD) and it is free postage worldwide. They are all individually spray painted on some lovely thick 220gsm Arches artist paper. They look really beautiful in a brightly coloured frame.

Well fingers crossed they go to loving homes :-)
